SMMGP is a membership organisation. We encourage the highest standards of practice in the treatment of problematic use of alcohol and drugs. We act as the voice of our members regarding the latest developments in the field and provide education and training. SMMGP's members are at the heart of what we do. They include keyworkers, therapists, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, non-medical prescribers, peer mentors, expert patients. SMMGP oversees the important work of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP), helping to improve standards of practice across the sector by: setting professional standards through a Code of Practice and Complaints and Disciplinary procedure; developing the workforce through events and competency-based training, qualifications and guidance; and keeping practitioners and managers up-to-date.

SMMGP Senior Management Team is Steve Brinksman (Clinical Director), Kate Halliday (Interim Executive Director), Elsa Browne (Operational Lead). Technical support is provided by Adam Bull.

SMMGP has a tradition of using a wide range of experts who support us in a variety of ways including delivering training on special interest subjects, and producing regular Clinical Updates and articles on topical issues relating to drug and alcohol treatment.
